Support Nebraska's Undocumented Community

This petition made change with 508 supporters!

We are a chapter of Define American, a media and culture change nonprofit focused on shifting the narrative around immigration, citizenship, and identity through the power of storytelling. Our chapter has been active at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for 4 years and our vision for our community is acceptance and advocacy through knowledge, and we hope you can help us better the vision that we have started to build around us.

The Dream and Promise Act if passed, would provide a pathway to citizenship for certain immigrants whose future in the U.S., the country they call home, has been thrown into uncertainty by the Trump administration’s decision to terminate Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and not to extend temporary protected status (TPS) and deferred enforcement departure (DED) designation for certain countries. On June 4, 2019 the House of Representatives voted and passed the bill but awaits to be voted on by the Senate.

Our current vision is to petition for support of our undocumented community not only on campus but across Nebraska. We also want to urge our Senators to support the Dream and Promise Act and hopefully join the fight as well. How ever many signatures we acquire until October 9th, our chapter will personally deliver them to their offices.

If you have more questions we've included links of the National Immigration Law Center as well as an article that debunks myths and fears over the Dream and Promise Act! If you want to learn more about Define American and how to get involved we also added our link!
