Save Beaumonds Respite Home for the Disabled

Beaumonds is a small respite home in Bath which provides crucial care to disabled children from the age of 5. This encourages social interaction with peers and gives full time carers a break and peace of mind that their child is in safe hands with fully qualified experienced staff. Not only do they provide this for younger children they also have a transition service for 18-21 year olds as well. As they are only a 5 bed chalet style home places are very limited anyway, so Banes really can't afford to lose such a valuable part of the disabled community.

Quarriers (Beaumonds) is the only service available in Bath. There are similar services in Bristol, Somerset and Wiltshire but are offered to local families only. What will happen to these children and their carers/families if this crucial service is closed down? Beaumonds also works closely with school transport who 'ferry' the children to and from school if they stay on a week day.

I've set this petition up as we as a family have used Beaumonds for several years. My eldest daughter is 14 and severely autistic. Due to her autism she doesn't sleep very much and they have been a vital service and much needed support for us over the years. Her stays gave me a chance to recharge my batteries as being a full time carer can be very demanding. I can honestly say hand on heart that without Beaumonds I don't know what we would have done. I am now faced with my second child just going through assessments, who is also believed to be autistic - we are awaiting a formal diagnosis. Bath without Beaumonds just doesn't bear thinking about, as who else will help families of these deserving rewarding children?

Bridget and her staff have been nothing short of excellent in our years with them. They've gone above and beyond the call of duty on many an occasion. They have always been informative, caring, compassionate and communication is fantastic. As well as providing a short break they also take children out on visits and they have a wheelchair accessible playground within their property, which is referred to as 'the paddock'.

I urge people of Bath and all areas to get behind this petition and support Beaumonds so this closure won't go ahead. Who knows when one of you may need this service? Many thanks for reading. Let's make a difference for Beaumonds and Bath :)
