Matthew Brown started this petition to Belmont Fresh Water Supply District No. 1

Harvest's side street speed limits are 30 mph.  The 30 mph speed limit was what was put in place when the community was planned.  The developer did not visualize the day to day reality of living on our Harvest streets.   The roads are too narrow and the speeds are too fast for the sheer volume of children and pedestrians we have in our community.

The stopping distance for 20 mph is 20 feet.  That's a car length.  The stopping distance for 30 mph is 45 feet.  That's 2-1/2 car lengths.  All this is also dependent on the driver watching the road.  What if it's your child that gets struck by a car? How would you feel if you hit an innocent child?

Will you support 30 mph speed limits on Cleveland Gibbs, Harvest Way and Old Justin RD?  In the communities of Trophy Club, Westlake and Southlake there are similar roads with speed limits set at 30 MPH.  There is no reason why our community cannot have reasonable speed limits.

Also, will you support 20 mph speed limit on the side street and all other roads in Harvest?  When cars are parked on the streets visibility and reaction time is severely reduced.  When children are at play, at any moment, a child can dart out from between two parked cars.

Please support lowering the speed limits in the Harvest subdivision.  We need your help.
