James Finlayson started this petition to BELLWAY HOMES (East Midland Division) and

Bellway Homes is funding Arriva buses to provide a service of 50 Double Decker buses to run through our estate every day and will be for the next five years.

The benefit these buses are providing is very low with the typical occupancy of the buses being 1-2 people.

The impact of these buses is significant:

  • Estimated equivalent Air Quality impact to 450 Cars Per Day (NO2) *
Equivalent environmental impact to 435 Cars Per Day (CO2) *
    * based on '2020 Government greenhouse gas conversion factors for company reporting'
  • Buses are too wide to pass safely. The road width is constructed to the minimum 6m from 'Manual for Streets' guidance, with no account for Swept Path analysis, and not the 6.75m guidance provided in the 'Leicestershire Highway Design Guide'. This continues to lead to instances of buses or vehicles mounting pavements to pass producing risk to pedestrians and damage to verges.
  • Use of the road by cycles, especially families, is now considered unsafe and has reduced.
  • Residents will be responsible for costs of damage to verges and trees as the estate will not be adopted by the council.

The undersigned of this petition would like the following:

  1. Reduce the frequency of buses running along Bishop Hall Road to no more than one per hour each way.
  2. Reduce the hours of service, currently 6am-8pm.
  3. Restrict the size of buses entering Bishop Hall Road to smaller, less polluting types.
  4. Agree to consultation with Broadleaf & Ashtree Garden residents about the benefits/impacts of the bus service.

At this time this is open to Broadleaf & Ashtree Gardens estates residents only. Please add your plot number in you comments please.
