Bells Beach Rezoning
This petition had 25 supporters
During 2016, a proposal for the development of a tourist lodge on the beautiful hinterland, directly surrounding the iconic Bells Beach, was put forward.
After the Surf Coast Shire and the local public declined the proposal, the landowner took the matter to VCAT (Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal).
The proposal was approved and allows the landowner to extend a dwelling and remove some of the native vegetation.
Bells Beach is very untouched area and was the worlds first Surfing Recreation Reserve.
Building this tourist development will act as the first step taken to start the domino effect of further proposals being approved.
This area should be rezoned, allowing original structures to remain but not allowing new dwellings to be constructed; keeping the natural beauty of this iconic land.
