Team Illumiknitty started this petition to Bellingham City Council

Did you know that Bellingham, WA, the adopted home of GISH--an international scavenger hunt that inspires creativity, acceptance, and community--has a street named after a confederate general? Capt. George E. Pickett was a U.S. Army officer who built Fort Bellingham in the 1850s and supervised construction of the first bridge across Whatcom Creek. He left the area in 1861 to fight for his home state of Virginia in the Civil War – Pickett later became a general in the Confederate States Army.

In 2017, following the racism and violence in Charlotte, Bellingham removed the sign on the Pickett Bridge, but Pickett Road retains its racist name. Let's rename it! We recommend naming the street Rosalinda Rd, in honor of local activist Rosalinda Guillen and the work of Community 2 Community, a women-led grassroots organization dedicated to food sovereignty and immigrant rights.
