In a city that is so dedicated to the future and sustainability, it is interesting to me that there is no public bus route going down 140th Ave NE, one of the main roads connecting Bellevue to Redmond and Kirkland. It is also a road that is easily accessible by 4 public schools: Sammamish High School, Lake Hills Elementary School, Stevenson Elementary School, and Odle Middle School. However, with less than a mile of extension onto 145th Pl, the bus would have easy access to both the Bellevue Big Picture School and Bellevue College.

Currently, if somebody wanted to travel 2.6 miles from Sammamish High School to Bridle Trails, it would mean taking 2 buses and ~35 minutes not including the time if you have to walk from the bus stop. This is a very long time when compared to driving on 140th where it would only take ~7 minutes. Most people would rather drive their car than have to put in all of the extra work and time to get to the same place.

This bus route would also be a convenience with all the new development for the light rail. With a stop planned to go in right on Bel-Red/130th St, in my opinion it makes sense to connect as many bus lines as possible so that people continue to use public transportation instead of using personal vehicles once they have reached Bellevue.

This bus route would also make it easier for students and residents of both Kirkland and Redmond to work in Bellevue because they would no longer have to take multiple buses or a personal vehicle in order to reach the jobs around 140th Ave NE. This is especially helpful for people who do not have personal vehicles and entirely depend on public transportation systems. As someone who works on 140th Ave NE and goes to school at Bellevue College it is frustrating to have to sit on a bus for 35 minutes in order to travel under 3 miles or the equivalence of around 7 minutes in a car.

With the city of Bellevue taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint such as the "Choose Your Way Bellevue" campaigns and being part of the King County-Cities Climate Collaboration (K4C), it would make sense to introduce buses in heavily used areas in order to get people out of cars and using public transportation because of the large impact that personal vehicles have on the environment.

The development of this bus route will also be aided by the fact that there are already bus stops all along 140th Ave NE that are no longer in use. The bus route could also share stops with other routes for areas that are already covered by other buses.

For these reasons I believe that there should be a permanent bus route along 140th Ave NE in Bellevue Washington.
