Don't cut the status and numbers of the Guardians of Bedford Borough's Country Parks!

Bedford Borough Council is proposing to make cuts to to both the numbers and to the pay and status of the Guardians of the Country Parks, which includes our cherished Harrold and Odell Country Park (HOCP). 1 of the 5 Park Guardians that run our parks in the Borough is likely to be made redundant and the others are to be downgraded, 2 to Ranger level, one grade below their current grade and 2 to what is in effect gardener status, two grades below their current grade. Quite apart from the moral issues in affecting the livelihoods of valued servants of Bedford Borough who no doubt have families to provide for and who have based their family budgets on their current salaries; these proposals will have a seriously detrimental effect upon one of the key assets of our Parish. The Guardians supervise and support the 'Friends of HOCP', local school visits, hold a wealth of local knowledge, and are able to provide advice and assistance to everyone who visits the Parks, especially in the event of an emergency. Please sign this petition to send a message to Mayor Dave and the Borough Council that we will not accept such short-sighted cuts to our services.
