Rename Black Knight

The City of Beckley has purchased the Black Knight Country Club and plans a Grand Opening this July! Since the city has decided to purchase the Black Knight Country Club, it should represent and honor EVERY every member of our city. This exclusive private facility kept 90% of residents of Beckley from having any access to the restaurant, pools, tennis, and golf course and other facilities. Historically, the Black Knight Country Club discriminated against people of color, people of differing religions, genders, and of course those that could not afford a membership.
Now that the City of Beckley owns the complex, the city officials would like to name it the Historic Black Knight and pay tribute to this history of exclusion, classism, racism and separatism. Understanding that this facility does not reflect the values of our city, the range of economic, racial and religious diversity in our area; we seek to have the name changed from the Historic Black Knight to remove the cloud of elitism and exclusion and to reflect our values, shared cultural experiences and make all feel welcome!
If you believe that this new city owned complex should begin with a new history and a new name, please sign the petition!
