Demolition of "Old Beacon Hill" Building

Although we realize how important it is to preserve and promote the history of our community it is also important to recognize that continued aging of the building has brought holes in the roof and exterior cracking. Like most buildings erected in the early 1900s, hazardous construction materials like lead and asbestos were used as they were thought to be safe at the time, but have now been known to cause adverse health conditions. Water damage has also caused the existence of mold. A problem with rats has also been reported.
The San Antonio Independent School District is aware of the situation and our District 6 trustee, Mrs. Olga Hernandez, will be discussing the issue with the SAISD Board. They are willing to safely demolish the building as it is not a historic landmark. For a list of San Antonio’s Historic Landmarks visit:
