There are more innocent people in our jails and prisons today than ever before. A lack of accountability for police and prosecutors, reliance on junk science and mistaken eyewitnesses, and the indigent defense crisis are major contributors to wrongful convictions that have undermined the credibility of our system and ruined the lives of innocent men and women.

In the Philippines, prolonged detention without charge or trial are seen. This makes the Philippines the Southeast Asian country with the highest number of pretrial and remand detainees and the second highest in all of Asia. 

The injustice of lengthy detention is compounded by the horrific conditions of the jail facilities. Because most of those who run afoul of the laws are poor, posting bail is often not an option.
