We STAND with Hayti Reborn against the continued theft of land and wealth from Durham’s Historic Hayti community; and STAND for transparency, due process, and a community-driven vision of wealth creation, not wealth extraction.  We think it deplorable that Hayti Reborn, the only local and community-centered and generated proposal and plan for Fayette Place, was the ONLY team of 10 proposers NOT INVITED to present their plan to the DHA Review Team, despite being deemed adequately responsive to the RFP.

We are peacefully asking:

1.     The Mayor, and her fellow City Council members, to intervene in the matter of Fayette Place and agree to support Hayti Reborn’s request for a public hearing (“Public Healing”) on this matter – and host this event in full view of the public;

2.     The City Manager to be directed by the City Council to issue a “city injunction” on Fayette Place by asking DHA to immediately cease and desist any and all current negotiations with any organization on Fayette Place’s development, until this matter is fully settled through a public hearing; and,

3.     The diverse public of Durham be allowed time and space to offer feedback to the City Council following a public hearing, on competing Fayette Place visions, but PRIOR TO DHA negotiating with a chosen developer and prior to the City Council offering a directive to the City Manager on assigning any written approvals to DHA of the development of Fayette Place.

Why should this matter to you?

1. DHA is taking money out of the community versus creating generational wealth for the community

2. DHA was not being transparent or equitable in its RFP process.

3. You believe in the future of the Hayti community.

4. You are tired of your community being pillaged to support outside interests that do not center the needs of your neighborhoods.

5.  My voice matters and should be considered in decisions that have a direct effect on me and my family.
