Save our Crossing and Lollipop Man

Save our Crossing and Lollipop Man

There has been a decision by BCP Road Safety Team to remove the school crossing patrol service and our school patrol crossing server will not be on Garland Road crossing any more from Monday 20th September 2021. The crossing on Garland Road would be unmanned until August 2022.
Under the plans our current server would lose his job on Garland Road that he has diligently covered for almost 3 years. When he steps out he just doesn’t even know whether the cars are going to stop, he has seen some close near misses. It has been absolute hell without him or previously our lovely Rita who retired in recent years.
It would be wrong for BCP to encourage our school to fund daily patrols as well as offering to support to any parents volunteers that would like to take on the role.
We wish for our server to remain as the road he occupies is very hard to cross without his presence and therefore is ‘dangerous’ for young children.
Tomorrow a petition will be started and link posted on here in light that server is being removed due to cuts by the council.
This crossing is very needed for every one at those busy times of the day with a hazardous junction and you are unable to see the cars coming, as they speed at an alarming rate, ignoring the clear slow down notices. The cars on both sides of the road obscure your vision so that you can't see traffic coming down Garland Road. Even with the servers bright yellow jacket over the years there has been quite a few near misses, so what are parents meant to do to keep the children safe, especially with the coming dark nights? without our lollipop man that road is an accident waiting to happen.
Daily you can see some children coming on their own, how are they going to get across if the cars don’t stop?
This crossing is also on a junction and of a major route into Poole and Garland Road is constantly busy. Shortly the sun will be low making this hazardous both drivers to see if a child was to run out on to the road and when families cross but get blinded as they check the road.
