We, as Canadians, sympathize with what the First Nations had gone through and still going through. However, is making indigenous studies as an extra graduation requirement an efficient way to reconcile, or does it create an adverse effect? Students are already required to take TWO social studies courses which focus heavily on indigenous studies. As we know, a lot of students hate English and math courses because they are MANDATORY, the more you force students to learn a particular subject, the more they hate it. Moreover, one more mandatory course means that students might lose one elective. Is the BC Ministry of Education trying to create more tension between indigenous people and non indigenous people?
