BBC Recipes Victory!

To all of you who signed and supported the petition I started to retain the BBC’s recipe archive, thank you so much! It has been incredible to find that so many of you felt strongly enough to add your support and share and retweet in your droves. The petition went viral on Twitter on Tuesday picking up over 150,000 signatures in less than 24 hours and propelling the story onto the front pages as well as TV, radio and social media. It was reported in the New York Times and as far away as Manila; closer to home it even made the front page of the FT and led to an unprecedented cookery slot on Newsnight! You have probably seen the BBC Press Office announcement from Tuesday evening. They conceded that due to the public outcry, they would not be, as previously stated, remove or mothball the archive, but move the content to BBC Good Food, the commercial site. VICTORY! Albeit a slightly cautious one, let’s hope this really does happen. The petition now stands at almost 191,000 signatures and is still open for those who wish to sign so if you know anyone who might be interested in doing so, please forward the link. It would be fantastic to reach 200,000! Thank you once again for your contribution in making this a powerful and productive campaign. Have a great weekend. Emma
