Following a recently-announced reshuffle of BBC Radio Scotlands news programmes by Gary Smith, BBC Scotlands Head of News:

https://radiotoday.co.uk/2019/09/weekday-schedule-shuffle-at-bbc-radio-scotland/

it was announced today on social media by Eamonn O’Neill that the weekly Media Review slot on the BBC John Beattie Thursday Lunchtime show was to cease.

Myself, and thousands of other BBC Scotland listeners on both Radio and podcast formats find this one of the most well-balanced, nuanced and entertaining discussion shows on any media outlet in Scotland, with regular guests Stuart Cosgrove, Anna Burnside and Professor Eamonn O’Neill being a highly qualified, entertaining and intelligent discussion team.   In many discussions of the show on social media, it has been mooted by listeners that this show could easily withstand moving to a longer, terrestrial TV slot owing to its balance, intelligence and popularity.

The stated aim of the reshuffle of the BBC Radio Scotland daily news output by Mr Smith was for the main news shows to “be hosted by presenters with years of journalism experience behind them. These changes ensure that our station remains at the forefront of delivering agenda-setting content that showcases radio journalism at its finest.”

How can the removal of BBC Radio Scotland, and indeed BBC Scotland as a whole’s, finest media journalism review slot by a renowned panel of experts in their field be justified?

Please sign this petition in order that Mr Smith and BBC Radio Scotland urgently reconsider their decision.
