Many people are looking forward to watching the head-to-head Scottish independence referendum debate between Alex Salmond MSP (First Minister of Scotland) and Alistair Darling MP (Chair of Better Together) which will be broadcast live by BBC One Scotland and across the rest of the UK on BBC Two between 8:30pm and 10.00pm on Monday 25 August 2014.
Please sign my petition – which is supported by the Scottish Council on Deafness (SCoD), Action on Hearing Loss Scotland and BDA Scotland – to support our call on the BBC to ensure that the programme is fully accessible for people across the UK who use British Sign Language (BSL). There are 13,000 BSL users in Scotland alone!
The BBC has agreed to provide live subtitles, which is important for people whose first language is English, but BSL users need Sign Language Interpreters on screen to follow the debate in their own language.
BSL users pay the TV licence like everyone else and should have equal access to this important live debate.
