The right of the Labour party/Blairites have every right to refer to themselves as moderate. They are fully aware that the term Blairite carries toxic connotations whereas the term moderate carries positive connotations. To be moderate is to be positioned within reasonable limits. To not be extreme. By default anyone not a moderate is an extremist.
However it is a subjective term. One persons moderate is another persons extremist. Therefore the mainstream media needs to be far more circumspect when they use this term. Instead they apply it generously and freely, thereby promoting and reinforcing what is essentially Blairite propaganda. That is not, and never should be, the role of impartial broadcasters.
We therefore call on the media as a whole to drop the term moderate, and instead use 'those on the right of the Labour party', in the same way they refer to Jeremy Corbyn as on the left.
If they fail to make this extremely reasonable and fair change, they will be seen to be complicit in taking a political position; thereby breaking the code of political impartiality all broadcasters are meant to abide by (see below).
