Honest weather reports
Global heating is real and it's affecting countries all over the world. It isn't something that is going to happen in the future - it's happening now and it's impacting all of us to a greater or lesser extent. I would like weather forecasts to tell us directly how our climate is changing by, for example, comparing the temperature for that day with the average of 10 years ago. These details will clearly show what's happening to our climate, rather than give the impression that everything's 'normal'.
This year the UK had the mildest New Year's Eve on record (https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/dec/31/uk-records-warmest-new-years-eve-on-record) but how many of us knew? Though the BBC acknowledged this fact at the time, I feel this falls woefully short of what's needed. I'm calling on all channels to clearly link our changing weather to the climate crisis on a regular basis. Records are consistently being broken yet you would never guess this when watching or listening to your friendly, knowledgeable presenter dutifully delivering the daily weather reports from our national and local broadcasters. The facts are usually either presented dispassionately, obscurely ('unseasonably warm...') or, worse, celebrated (bumper ice-cream sales in February! https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/burton/ice-cream-sales-weather-sun-2582439)
Broadcasters seem reluctant to report honestly on the way in which our weather patterns are changing. I believe this is contributing to the general lack of urgency around dealing with the climate crisis and this has to change!
