Cameron-Jade Ashman started this petition to BBC

Everyone who has access to a BBC channel or radio station has to have a TV licence regardless of whether they use these channels/stations. It costs over £10 a month to own a TV licence, which is effectively not being used most of the time. The young people of today most likely will next to never use BBC channels or stations for anything. We, as a generation (speaking on behalf of the teenagers who will soon be adults), hardly even use the actual television. We are far more interested in watching YouTube and Netflix, which are both things you pay for (or can watch advertisements in the case of YouTube) to watch whatever you want, as long as it is on their platform.

However, with the BBC, you watch/listen to what they give you, which may leave some people feeling obliged to watch something that they don't even want to just to feel like their money was spent well. People nowadays can't afford to pay for things that they don't want. When you can't even own a phone, regardless of whether you have internet enabled or not, without having a TV licence, how are people expected to afford the Internet in the first place. I personally know people who are struggling to pay the bills as it is, and are quite often low on food to the point where cupboards are EMPTY. £12.87 a month may not seem like a lot, but when that money could be spent feeding your family literally every pence matters.

I would like to propose a solution that may please the BBC as well as be the difference between being able to afford to eat or not. Simply block people from using your channel unless they have payed for it. If the BBC made it so that you have to sign in to an account when trying to access their channels/stations, then they could simply say 'We're afraid that you haven't payed for this service and therefore cannot access this content. Please top up your account in order to continue.'. Or they could just use adverts, or even do what YouTube and Crunchyroll do and make you watch adverts every five minutes unless you pay for the service.
