Save Black Rock Bowlo

The Black Rock Sports Club (BRSC), known as the Black Rock bowlo has struggled in recent years, particularly this year with Covid restrictions. Memberships fell further as people struggled- the club is owned by less members with more control to influence its future.

BRSC has now been approached by Royal Melbourne Golf Club (RMGC) to acquire the land, in return for new facilities at the new Sandringham Golf Course (which is not permanent, a 30-year lease).

Discussions have begun and this weekend approximately 190 full members will decide if the discussion with RMGC progress. The timing and voting have been progressed quickly and lack of community awareness is a concern.

There has never been a more important time for our community to hold close our open spaces. Our Councillors need to support the club in the coming two years (this is not a huge amount, perhaps one-quarter of a toilet block). Be aware that the Council has washed their hands in recent discussions stating that as a private club, they will not inject any funds. (Council also has a development adjacent to the BRSC and know RMGC well having granted the 30-year lease RMGC have over Sandringham GC.)

This is not the time to relinquish this land in exchange for a very high-risk commitment to new clubhouse and facilities

I am seeking your support for the following

- stop any further discussion with RMGC and pursue more beneficial and less risk for the sustainability of the BRSC.

-commit to  social or full membership (unfortunately voting rights have closed)

-Bayside Council to assist the Club for approximately two years while they explore other options.

This petition will be presented to Councillors and full member BRSC with voting rights

Thank you, don't forget what happened to the Beaumaris RSL.
