The current Panama City Rescue Mission is located in downtown Panama City, where there is a need for a rescue mission. The current rescue mission services the homeless in the downtown area because that is where the concentration of homeless are. The new proposed site for the homeless resource center is 11 miles from the current Panama City Rescue Mission and the downtown area. There are two schools in the immediate area of the proposed resource center and several neighborhoods with as many as 600 homes in the immediate area. The property values will diminish and the quality of the area will greatly diminish. The dangers involved with the proposed location are immediate. The neighborhood crime will increase and the danger to those using the resource center will be greatly increased. There are two routes to get from downtown to the proposed site, HWY 231 North (4 lane HWY) or Star Ave, neither of which have walking or biking paths, leading to increased pedestrian traffic from downtown to the proposed site. Please help us raise awareness of and stop the action by the Panama City Commissioners.
