Don't sell Macquarie River water to McPhillamys Gold Mine

Regis Resources Ltd wants to buy Bathurst’s recycled water to supply its proposed McPhillamys Gold Mine at Kings Plains. The water is currently released back into the Macquarie River and helps ensure its health and prevent algal blooms.

This water must be recycled into the Macquarie catchment for the health of the river system, for agricultural use, to supply downstream water users and to protect the region's biodiversity.

Access to increasingly precious water must be granted on the basis of sustainability of use, for the benefit of the growing cities and towns and agricultural production in the Central West in the face of increasingly dry climatic conditions.

It's irresponsible to sell water that is needed for the ongoing health of our region's river, farms and communities for the benefit of a mining company operating in a different river catchment.

Send a message to Bathurst Regional Council: Don't degrade the Macquarie River by selling this water to McPhillamys Gold Mine.
