Support our plans for a village shop in East Markham
This petition had 133 supporters
East Markham is a small village in Nottinghamshire that currently has no village shop. Planning permission for a new small purpose built shop has recently been refused by Bassetlaw Planning Department due to the believed impact on the conservation of the village even though plans are still being passed for multiple houses to be built on the green areas within the village. We, the applicants are willing to work with the relevant departments to ensure minimal impact in the area that is situated in our own garden.
Residents now have to travel to the next town or village to buy food items and for those without access to a car this means relying on the bus service which is unreliable in bad weather. For older residents needing a pint of milk would mean a journey by bus in any weather.
This shop could prove to be a lifeline for many of East Markham residents that are isolated or have limited mobility as well as being a place to go to break loneliness that can be suffered living in a small village.
Please sign this petition to show the conservation officer that a shop would be a great asset to our community and that this much needed amenity far outweighs the minimal visual impact.
East Markham is very important to us. We grew up here and have built our own family here. Our daughters have all attended the local school and we all have many important memories here. We want to give back to the community that has played such an important part in our lives.
