Why this petition matters

Started by sian sellars

Yesterday we witnessed my teenager nephew have a non epileptic seizure. One of many he normal has, this was the first time as relatives we had seen and had to deal with this. Luckily both me and my husband have first aid training.

When he came round the following day he said that only his parents and close friends had witnessed these and knew how to deal with them.

This is why I believe that all secondary school pupils should have basic first aid training with knowledge of how to deal with seizures should they witness them.

They may be out playing with their friends when an accident happens that they could help to deal with until further assistance arrives, they may be with family members who have an accident or an incident happens that they could help to provide support and assistance, they may be passers by and witness an a pedestrian who has fallen and will know how to support them until help arrives  -  plus it will give them the basic tools and confidence to deal with situations without panic.

After witnessing the seizure first hand, I can honestly say that without the training I  already had,  I would have panicked and likely not supported my nephew in the correct way.

Please sign the petition if you agree basic first aid skills should be taught in secondary schools.
