It’s time for change. This society is constantly changing and so should the rules with it. At Bartlett high school girls ages 13-18 are constantly being dress coded. They are being pulled out of class and called a “disruption to the learning environment” as stated in the handbook. I have personally been pulled out of a class for an entire period to talk about dress code and how I am distracting to the learning environment and how my skin makes my peers uncomfortable, other girls have been put in iss for mid drift less than an inch, skirts longer than mid thigh and more. On the other hand boys wear shorts with 3 inch inseams and do not get pulled out of the same class a girl got pulled out of for her 5 inch skirt. The dress code is teaching young girls that their skin is a distraction to peers in the classroom and that our education is not as important as theirs and wether or not they intend to they are. I’ve been told that god would be disappointed in my mid drift and many girls have been degraded with other comments worse than that. If peers get so distracted by mid drift, thighs or shoulders they need to be taught how to focus and we shouldn’t be taught to cover up for them, the dress code needs to be changed.  Like I have been told by many staff members at this school they need to be ready for the real world, because the real world won’t cover up for their convenience.
