A National Emergency has been declared in the United States by the current Commander in Chief. Our February vacation was eliminated, and what is happening now is hardly a vacation. Students have to worry about assignments while people they care about could be bedridden with COVID-19. Nothing about this is a vacation, as we are recommended to not even visit family members. We have reached a national crisis, someone in our school community has the Coronavirus, and yet, you still deem this to be a “vacation”. There is nothing more that students deserve in this troubling time than a week off. I understand that this is just one students opinion and that there is no clear solution to this epidemic, yet to deem this week, one full of chaos and quarantine, a vacation is nowhere near correct. This week is not a vacation for anyone - teachers, students, community members, especially the elderly. I implore the Barrington school community to listen to the voices of the students for once and please just consider these few days as ones set aside for regrouping - says eliminated from the 180 day limit. I understand that the 180 day requirement is set not by the Barrington community - yet right now, we need to realize that it is unfair to call the chaos right now a vacation. We have snow days built up - how come we cannot do the same for this virus. The students need a break from school, something that they haven’t had since December. COVID-19 is no break.
