Help ALL primary schools deliver more, varied & quality PE & sports for ALL students

The World Health Organisation recommend children of a Primary School age should get 1 hours exercise a day.

Some of our Primary Schools may only be supporting children with one hour's activity a week.

There has not been a significant change in the way that PE is provided in some schools since the 1940s

Research from the University of Bristol (Professor Russell Jago) suggests that 1/3 Boys and 2/3 Girls will decline in the amount of physical activity they take part in between the ages of 6 and 11.

We have to engage our young people with sports and movement sooner, to ensure we have young adults who feel comfortable and confident with physical activity as a day to day part of life.

Research shows that being exposed to a wide and varied selection of sports and activities will engage more children at a younger age, and for longer.

But without a relevant strategy in place for schools, there is a lottery as to what quality of teaching/engagement will be delivered.

A quick survey and some focus groups also indicated that parents believe that their children are getting much more activity within school, than may be the case.
An ALL PARTY PARLIAMENTARY REVIEW was presented by Baroness Floella Benjamin recommending a National TaskForce be created to review PE Provision.

This was rejected by Lord Nash in 2016

More funding has been granted to schools to support this area which makes the case for up to date standards and strategy to be in place.

Please join me in adding your signature to this petition and spreading the word - so we may ask to overturn the decision.

We can help children feel more confident about exercise and physical activity if we give them the support and choice in these formative years.
