Dear Residents of Barnet,

We need as many signatures as possible to comment on the current development of proposed housing plans in our areas by the local government and council.
There are currently proposals to build houses and flats at our existing community open and closed spaces in Barnet, with little knowledge of these community spaces having an alternative site. This is a devastating blow to everyone in the local communities for all ages, heritages, abilities and social backgrounds. With community spaces disappearing fast due to lack of funding or support the remaining spaces now under threat with the current proposals.

The Local Council has recently encouraged the local community to promote and find ways of cohesion and integration across the Borough, this effort under the current proposed plans will be impacted negatively on the community and future residents hindering further local council and community efforts and access to integration. The proposed developments in some areas mean there is an increased population, traffic and parking demand also limits access to local amenities and services in the local areas where it’s already limited.

We residents understand homes are needed for those that need housing; however, the current proposed plans show little if any spaces left for communal use in some areas. With the current local plans the need for a community space is ever more increasing.

The local council and wider community have realised the effects of not having safe zones for the youth in our communities as well as those effected with low- and middle-class-income backgrounds and minority groups, and the need to provide a nurturing environment for future generations. Gun, Knife and Drugs related crime are rife with in our communities.
0ur children, family, friend’s even US can all fall victims to these tragedies if we allow current trends to become a norm and accepted with in our society especially amongst the younger generations. The need to act now is greater than ever and these community spaces give many an opportunity to make positive contributions to society.

There are also many left stranded feeling lonely or limited to their homes because of disabilities, secluded from society from different circumstances or responsibilities; or due to lack of social skills or options to access close local communal spaces; As these community spaces will be taken away with no alternative. They will be left with little to replace their current social interaction needs, their well being regards to both mental and physical health. Mental Health Disorders such as Depression, Anxiety and more seriously Suicidal Thoughts have become more aware in our society today, and the effects of whom we would fail if we don’t see the benefits community spaces bring. All these areas effect every person one way or another in our daily lives, either we have used them or know of someone whom does, and by removing these community spaces we are allowing the negatives further into our society and homes due to lack of responsibility, resources, understanding and availability.

We would like the local government, the local council and those that make the decisions to understand were are not against the proposal of development, we would like community spaces to exist or even integrated in some areas that are under proposal to be used as a mix of community and housing. And to consider access to local services, amenities and educational facilities, for a healthier and more functional Neighborhood and Borough.

We need as many signatures from residents in Barnet to respond to the proposed consultation by March 15th 2020.

Please sign for a better future for all and share.
