I am writing this petition as a parent of a child at Brunswick Park Primary School and as a local resident of N14.

It has become increasingly evident in recent months that safety of pedestrians using the two pedestrian crossings on Osidge Lane N14 (near the Covid Testing Centre and Osidge Library) is being regularly compromised. I have observed that a significant amount of drivers fail to stop when pedestrians are engaged in crossing or waiting to cross at these points.

Many parents, myself included, have been subject or witness to repeated incidents where cars have passed over the crossing while pedestrians are in situ endangering those trying to cross.  Several collisions have occurred on these crossings in recent months and the attached crash map shows there have been many accidents on this road over the past three years. As a parent of a child at Brunswick Park, I am concerned that if something is not done to highlight the crossings more effectively, there is a very real risk of a child being killed or badly injured on this road in the near future.

I have two suggestions which I believe would help make the road /crossing points a lot safer:

1) install a 20 mile an hour limit on this road during school drop off and pick up times, as has been implemented for the benefit of local Primary Schools in nearby Chase Road.

2) alert drivers to the crossing points and speed limit(s) with signs that flash continually during school drop off and pick up times

Currently there is signage on the road before each crossing however it only illuminates if a driver is breaking the 30 mile an hour limit.

This is not proving to be sufficient to alert drivers to the crossings and I have heard reports of drivers failing to stop on a daily basis.  Many children travel independently to this school from year 5 onwards.  My concern is that they might expect cars to always stop to allow them crossing priority on the zebra crossings and may not be as watchful as when crossing other roads. If a driver fails to be aware that they are crossing and they are  traveling above 20mph this could have terrible consequences.
