Barndarrig in County Wicklow is a small village that has grown exponentially over the last 20 years, and yet is lacking basic community facilities such as:

• A Community Hall for groups, classes, events, meetings, concerts etc.
• A playground or multi-use games area for children to kick a ball around.
• Communal green space, somewhere for people to meet outdoors, sit and talk.

Wicklow County Council has purchased the last zoned development site in the village center - the old HSE Health Centre site next to Ard Rua - and is working on plans to develop the entire site in three rows of housing.

We are asking our Councillors and Wicklow County Council to re-work the plan to allow the Barndarrig Community to retain the front of the site, from the old Health Centre building and carpark down to the road, for us to redevelop into a Community Hall, playground, and community garden green space.

We believe there is ample space to extend the second two rows of Ard Rua to the rear of the site, whilst leaving the road frontage and existing half-acre or so for the community to use. It's the difference between maybe 8 new homes and 10-12 as per the council's current objectives - we believe this to be a fair compromise to help the village grow and become properly sustainable for all it's residents, both existing families and for those to come!

• Barndarrig welcomes new homes and new families joining the village to grow together as a sustainable community.
  
  
• Barndarrig welcomes social housing, and believes deeply in the right for all to the safety and sanctuary of a home and a sense of belonging.
  
  
• Barndarrig is not opposed to development.
  
  
• Barndarrig is opposed to incremental development without, or at the cost of supporting infrastructure.
  
  
• Barndarrig is already severely underserved in terms of community amenities.

Once again, there are no other zoned development sites owned by the Council in the village centre - this is our only opportunity to get the facilities we need to support the growth of our community.
