Barkway Parish Council wish to relocate the children's play equipment (removing and not replace some, stated as 1 x child's swings) currently on the Barkway Recreation Ground. They want to relocate to make way for a 20 space Car Park, which will be housed immediately adjacent to the relocated play equipment.

This Car Park will only be for use during Football matches and occasional events - NOT for use by daily Recreation ground and Playground users. We feel this is Discriminatory for other users of the Recreation ground (Definition: "A piece of PUBLIC land used for sports and games".)

We also feel that the siting of the Car Park immediately adjacent to the relocated playground may open the children to a range of Safeguarding issues : "Parks and playgrounds should provide safe and traffic-free play spaces" - Play England

We want to prove to the Council that the Play equipment is used thoroughly throughout the year and we would like to prove that children DO use the playground in all seasons. Therefore, we need a car park all year round (stated on now deleted Facebook post that the "new parking area will only be used when's there is an event at the Rec and closed at all other times. ..Invariably, most events at the Rec are in the winter, so in summer the parking area will be very rarely used" posted by Barkway Pavillion & Community Hall Friday 12th May 2017).

We also love that the Recreation ground and current siting of the UNFENCED play equipment allows for free play and unrestricted exercise on the recreation ground.

We appreciate that as the Village expands and the use of the Recreation ground increases, solutions will need to be found to cope with demand for localised parking; but feel an arrangement that would benefit ALL users of local amenities (i.e.Recreation Ground, Pavillion, Village Hall, Social Club) should be explored rather than a small group of Individuals as per the current proposal.

If you feel strongly regarding this proposal please sign this petition to ask the Parish Council to NOT build a car park on our Barkway Playground, NOT to move the play equipment and  to spend Parish money exploring  other solutions that will benefit the WHOLE community

If you would like to complain personally please email parish by 21st May (please do so as we need more signatures!)
