Bark n' Bitches has been a pillar in the community since 2006. They are the first EVER humane pet shop. It was proven from the beginning that people love to adopt rescued from a storefront whose dogs are out and about. Free roaming, socializing with dogs, people and children.

Nov 13, 2019 there was an incident at the shop where an employee jumped in to head off a possible dog fight. She removed one dog in a hurried way. It was caught on video... released to the masses and went viral across the planet as abuse. The dog was vetted and passed with flying colors.  The employee has been fired.

That incident invoked LAAS (LA Animal Services), to show up to the shop early the following morning Nov. 14. We are closed to the public between 10-12pm where we tend to the dogs, the crates and cleaning. They showed up around 10:30-1045 during massive cleaning. 10 volunteers and 2 employees. It was discovered that my pet shop permit expired. They told Shannon to go to the shelter and have it renewed. I did. Check cashed.

From November 14, 2019 thru January 8, 2020, LAAS showed up 4x handing  citations saying Shanon didn't have a kennel licence and the dogs need to be removed. They went on to say that I need an "inspection" (never had one before for renewal), but REFUSED to do one. Every citation had the permit as the issue, and the solution was to REMOVE THE DOGS IMMEDIATELY and STOP ADOPTIONS. On January 8th, 2020, 4 LAAS animal control officers showed up and handed me a letter saying they would not renew my permit and again, REMOVE THE DOGS IMMEDIATELY.

Bark N Bitches had legal representation who reached out via phone calls and emails wanting to speak to someone about these citations for months. NEVER once did anyone including the GM Brenda Barnett respond to these outreach attempts.

On January 17th, 2020, LAAS and LAPD showed up at the shop with a search warrant and seized 17 happy and healthy puppies and dogs from my immaculate shop. They threatened us with arrest several times. LAAS  animal shelters are severely overcrowded. They are under their own investigation for substandard care and unsanitary conditions. They took these rescued happy and free dogs to their overcrowded shelter where they have been languishing since January 17th. They REFUSE to release the "evidence" back to me, even thou they legally can't hold them as "evidence". No neglect or abuse... just "evidence".

January 28th, the firm of Davies Wegner sent a demand letter to the GM and council members demanding release of the dogs. She cited their own codes where it proves that they did not follow their own codes. It was unlawful to deny my permit since there was no due process/hearing. They then used that denial of my permit to get a search warrant. On all counts, everything was done unlawful and illegal.

Bark N Bitches is being forced to close this extremely successful ADOPTION CENTER of 14 years. They can not sustain the expenses with no inventory. LAAS also took it upon themselves to call the shelters I save dogs from and tell them to NOT allow them Not to rescue any dogs, which is causing more animals to suffer!

As of today, no one from LAAS will communicate with me or my legal team, nor will any of the councilman who are Brenda Barnett's bosses. Shannon was forced to make the heartbreaking decision to shut down my shop.

We are still trying to get the 17 dogs released. It has proven to be very difficult since they refuse to communicate. The dogs are living in an awful environment. 12 are puppies, one senior lab and 2 from Devore shelter who were slated for euthanasia because they were so traumatized in the shelter.

Here is an article that explains my dilemma.
