Change BHISD Sexist Dress Codes

Change BHISD Sexist Dress Codes
Why this petition matters

I am challenging this school board for a variety of reasons, all near and dear to my heart. My son, Jabez, has had long hair since birth. It is part of who he is. In my home it isn't taught that boys shouldn't have long hair because all the other little boys have short hair. My son has reiterated time and time again that he loves his hair. My family is Cocopah Indian and hair has always been a sign of strength. When I had originally enrolled him into BHISD I was told that he could keep his long hair provided that I give documentation stating why. So I set out to do just that. I got my innocent little 4 year old absolutely ENTHRALLED about going to school. I've since been told that any documentation would NOT be allowed and he WILL NOT be allowed into the school district. It's a sexist rule that should not be implemented for boys if it's not implemented for girls. It's that simple. Girls have no rule on the length of their hair and it does not pose safety threats nor distraction concerns. The same courtesy should be extended to my child. I have tried to meet them half way. I have no problem putting his hair up or keeping it in a bun but that is simply not good enough for this district. Please help me protect something that my child holds near and dear to his heart. Sign now and share!
