people should not be fired for being gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender

The US should stop firing people from their jobs for being gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. 32 states in total still do this, but only three states fire you for your sexual orientation, not your gender. This does not help anyone. First of all, people can lose their jobs over just being who they are. They can’t be interviewed for a job, they can’t get promoted, or they just get fired for their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Next, if people don’t want to lose their jobs, they have to stay in the closet and possibly face their colleagues/coworkers making offensive homophobic or transphobic jokes around the workplace. 62% of LGBT workers have heard gay and lesbian jokes, 43% have heard bisexual jokes, 31% of closeted employees fear that they will lose connections with coworkers, and 23% fear that they might not be offered any promotions/development or advancement conveniences. Finally, people have jobs to make money. Imagine if you were fired from your job, probably wouldn’t be able to get another job, just because of who you are sexually and/or romantically attracted to or your gender identity. You wouldn’t be able to make money just because you are being yourself, and not faking everything, while still in the closet. Let’s make it so that people don’t have to be fired from their jobs that they work hard at just for being themselves.
