In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, we must call on President Obama to confront the urgent threat of global warming by stopping climate-wrecking projects like the proposed Keystone XL tar sands pipeline and slashing dangerous carbon pollution from power plants. Urge President Obama to stand up to the dirty fuel lobby by moving swiftly on these two fronts.

Letter to
U.S. House of Representatives
U.S. Senate
President of the United States
The tragic aftermath of Hurricane Sandy has made it clearer than ever that our nation must confront the reality of global warming and move toward a clean energy future. We can no longer allow power plants to spew unlimited amounts of carbon pollution that help drive climate change, nor should we be building new dirty fuel projects like the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

You've taken a first step by proposing standards for new power plants. Now it's time for your administration to make those standards permanent and go after existing plants that are the biggest source of carbon pollution.

However, the benefits of such bold measures will be diminished if you allow the worst dirty fuel projects -- like the Keystone XL -- to proceed. This mammoth pipeline will help detonate one of the biggest "carbon bombs" on the planet -- the Canadian tar sands -- and drive more disastrous climate change.

Please make good on your promise to carry out a vigorous, complete and independent review of the Keystone XL -- a review that is now in its early stages. A full report of this pipeline's true environmental and economic costs will make it crystal clear that it is NOT in our national interest and must be rejected.

As we move toward a clean energy future, there is no room for the most destructive oil on the planet. I call on you to prevent this disaster-in-the-making by reviewing and rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline.
