Please help Chris reconnect with his beautiful son! My brother, Christopher Smith (#15421-006), received 18 years of imprisonment for a non-violent crime, conspiracy. My brother have never been in trouble with the law. He is a first-time offender. Chris was arrested at the age of 25 in the year of 2007 while having 30 credits remaining to graduate with a BA degree in business management and with a fiancé that was 3 months pregnant (the time) with their first child.

During the 10 years of my brother’s incarceration, he has made the best of his time by educating himself in various subjects. He has became a vegan raw foodist, learned about nutrition and natural healings, in which, he has cured 4 diabetics, became a certified horticulturist under the United States Department of Labor specializing in growing produce hydroponically, an adult continuing education (ACE) instructor, a GED tutor, and motivate “at risk” youth in the New Jersey communities from coming to prison by conducting speaking engagements at Jr. high and high schools, Jr. ROTC cadets, and churches.

My brother’s first and only child was born in 2008. His son is 8 years old, soon to be 9. They have built a father to son relationship via telephone since the birth of his son which have been very difficult. My nephew barely knows his father and the older he gets the more resentment he builds up towards his father for not being an active father in his life.
Our father recently has been diagnosed with prostate and lung cancer. He has only 2 to 4 years remaining to live, however my brother has 5 years remaining. The thought of not being able to spend time with his son again before passing away, my father health has decreased rapidly.

President Obama has granted over 1,000 of federal commutation of sentences so far. He plan on granting approximately, a thousand more before leaving office in January2017. My brother has filed a clemency petition himself seeking President Obama to grant his request for commutation of sentence. However, the problem is, all petitions filed by federal inmates do not reach the President's desk. Thus, I am asking for you to support and sign this online petition and help me draw attention to my brother’s situation. The more signatures, the more attention, the better chances of my brother’s clemency request will reach Obama's desk.

If my brother sentence is reduced, our family will be emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and even physically healed. My brother and his son will be united for the first time. Their relationship will be healed and my nephew will have a better and brighter future. My brother would be able to spend valuable time with our father before his death. Better yet, our father have a better chance on living longer and become healthier because Chris will apply the nutritional and healing techniques that he has learned. Chris will continue motivating “at risk” youth from coming to prison by joining other organizations in the community. Also, he will start an agricultural business that will grow healthy and organic produce and educate the community about healthy eating and living, in which, he will save more lives and provide employment.
My brother has rehabilitated himself and has came full circle with his past behavior. He is ready to be a positive force in to society and reunited with his family. He has paid his dues to society. Thank you for your time!
