Gumtree is unable to ensure the welfare of animals which are being sold through their site. They do not do home visits to ensure that the animal lives in suitable conditions. and in most cases animals are being sold without being checked by a vet and without vaccinations, just so people can make a quick dollar. I looked at Gumtree when i wanted to have a rabbit as a pet, and we visited a family who were selling rabbits. The mother and her babies lived in a tiny hutch with no hay feeder, no water bowl and the hutch was unclean. The father rabbit was in a seperate and even smaller cage on the ground with absolutely no food, only little bits of grass poking into the cage. We did not buy any rabbits from that family. Not long after we found a rabbit refuge and we fostered a mother and her babies that had all been desexed, fully vaccinated, microchipped and were all in very good health conditions.
