Why this petition matters

I want more of the billions of dollars (yet to be finalized) to go to the victims and families who actually suffered from the opioid crisis fueled by the Sakler family. I, like millions of others have lost more than could ever be paid back to addiction from opioids. If the settlement goes as planned less than 10% of the money will be put into victims hands and the majority of the money going to state governments which we know will not be distributed like its supposed to or to good causes. The states have all benefitted in one way or another from the sale of opioids. Whether it be sales tax(not in all states) grants for treatment or taxes and licences from treatment centers etc.

I became addicted to opioids due to a drug pushing pain management doctor when I was only 18 years old. I went through several treatment programs and have finally been off of opioids for a little over three years now. Some of my family still don't associate with me and some I won't get to reconcile with because they are no longer with us. Since stopping opioids I am in a deep depression and have severe anxiety that I never had. I had to pay a lot in court fees, lawyer fees, and restitution from my behavior directly caused from my opioid addiction. That's all on top of the money that I owe family and friends that I could never repay. I was an excellent student who dropped out to chase my addiction. This isn't anywhere everything I lost to my addiction to opioids. I want more of the money in the purdue pharma case to go to rebuild the lives that the victims had or could have had if they never became addicted.
