Bank of England: Replace paper banknotes with more durable polymer banknotes
This petition made change with 16 supporters!
Paper banknotes are easy to be damaged and last a short amount of time. With the small amount of time each note lasts, paper money causes a significant impact on the environment.
Many countries such as Australia, New Zealand and Canada already use polymer banknotes. Polymer is much more durable than paper and will last much longer against general wear and tear as well as being entirely waterproof. With a longer lifespan, polymer banknotes will save money on costs to replace older notes and decrease the impact on the environment.
Polymer notes make more security features possible, making it harder for people to forge notes with features unavailable to paper notes such as metameric inks.
