Bring Suicide Prevention and Awareness Education into Maine Schools

0 have signed. Let’s get to 500!

In recent years, the number of student suicides in the Bangor area, as well as throughout the state of Maine, has increased dramatically. Students have personally lost a multitude of friends, neighbors, classmates, teammates. It is necessary to provide students with the resources and knowledge they need to get personal help or assist a friend. This education is essential to the wellbeing of not only Maine's students, but to our communities as a whole.

The Steps for Souls Team, a group of four girls from Bangor High School, is working with both the Bangor School Department and the State Legislature to bring preventative procedures combating suicide into school curriculum.

We the Undersigned:

1.) Agree and consent to the use of name and provided information as evidence which will be used to put this plan into action through working with the state legislature.

2.) Believe and support that Maine schools need to emphasize mental illness (i.e. suicidal ideations, depression, anxiety, etc.) as well as integrate preventative procedures combating suicide into school curriculum.
