Flower Arrangements made with Floral-foam, Thermocol, plastics are polluting the environment, and should be banned immediately.

Floral decorations are very common in India, for Temple decorations, weddings, government events, Movie opening functions, and death anniversaries too. Bouquet arrangements using toxic floral-foam in hotels, anniversary gifts are also very common. Tonnes of used flowers mixed with thermocol and toxic floral-foam is disposed to landfills polluting the environment.

General public and Florists assume that the disposed Thermocol and floral-foam , plastic covers used in bouquets and decorations, when disposed in dustbins are sorted ,recycled or composted. But the fact is, Floral-foam is single use plastic, Carcinogen and pollutes land and water bodies . Thermocol , plastic covers wrapped on bouquets too are non-recyclable plastics pollutants.

Flowers, when not mixed with these plastics are easily bio-degradable and compostable . When mixed with thermocol, floral foam and plastics, these flowers become totally wasted and cant be used as a compost too. Every year 1500MT of toxic floral foam is used by florists and decorators, and same is disposed in soil and waterbodies.

We Urge Government officials, CPCB and State Pollution Control boards to issue guidelines banning usage of Non-biodegradable materials like floral-foam, thermocol and plastics in floral decorations, floral-exhibitions (for creating floral elephants and other huge structures) and in government events, political rallies  .

We urge Temple / religious authorities to stop usage of floral-foam and thermocol voluntarily in temple decorations. 

At last we urge common public to sign the petition which helps in government  understanding the gravity of the problem. Do share the petition to create awareness amount common public, and we also urge commong public to specifically go for decorations and bouqets that doesnt use floral-foam, plastic and thermocol, and stop encouraging sastisfying ASMR vidoes using toxic floralfoam.
