Ban the use of private prisons and detention centers

Ban the use of private prisons and detention centers
Our Group is creating a petition to be signed that supports the banning of privatized and for profit detention centers. In this petition we ask the Biden administration to extend its Executive Order to phase out the use of private prison contracts to the Department of Homeland Security to terminate the use of ICE detention center contracts. There are a total of five private companies that have contracts with ICE and run detention center facilities across the United States; Geo Group, CoreCivic, LaSalle Corrections, Management & Training Corp., and Immigration centers of America. During the Trump administration these companies made an estimated 1.83 billion in 2018. Meanwhile An investigation done by USA Today had revealed that since Trump took office in 2017 there had been more than 400 allegations of sexual assult or abuse, inadequatee medical care, regular hunger strikes, frequent use of solitary confinement, more than 800 instances of physical force methods used on detainees, 20,000 grievances that were filed by detainees, and 29 fatalities (including 7 suicides). With this petition we hope to inform the public of the abuse and mistreatment of detainees within these facilities along with banning the practice of privatized and for profit prisons and detention centers.
