Ban the Sale of Gasoline and Diesel Cars in Canada
This petition had 12,580 supporters
Gasoline and diesel cars have a huge impact on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.
In Canada, transportation is one of the biggest sources of air pollution, having a major adverse impact on the environment and health of Canadians. Air pollution results in more than 7,700 premature deaths in Canada every year, at a cost of more than $36 billion.
Other countries around the world — including France, the UK, Norway and the Netherlands — are taking decisive action to ban the sale of gas and diesel cars by 2040 or sooner, to pave the way for innovation and greener alternatives. China, the world’s largest car market, is also eyeing plans to phase out production of gas and diesel vehicles.
As governments around the world make these declarations, it forces car manufacturers to make changes to their products, and accelerates investment in cleaner infrastructure.
It’s time for Canada to plan for a greener future by banning the sale of gas and diesel cars by 2040 or sooner. Sign and share this petition today.
