The Death Penalty is highly inhumane, and takes away unnecessary resources from the legal system, as well as traumatizes families. I want to use funds normally used on death penalty trials and direct them towards our overcrowded prison system. The death penalty also disproportionately affects people of color -- in cases with a black defendant and white victim, there have been 296 executions, compared to 21 executions where the victim was black, and the defendant white (DPIC).
