Ban the Bag in Walton County Florida

Ban the Bag in Walton County Florida
Why this petition matters
Did you know that there will be more plastic than fish in the world's oceans by the year 2050?
In 2008, Florida passed legislation preventing the banning of plastic bags state-wide, essentially a ban on a ban. Every year the Florida State Legislature blocks bills that would ban single-use plastic bags. Until our lawmakers can get it right, we need to do our part within our local communities.
Despite the legislation that prohibits bans on the state level, numerous cities have enacted ordinances banning single-use plastic bags. So, I ask you, if these local communities can do it, then why can't we?
You don't need to be a resident of Florida to know that plastic bags have a negative environmental impact on the world. Currently, Walton County's recycling program doesn't accept plastic bags because they can break down machinery. As a result, millions of plastic bags end up in our oceans and landfills.
I want to do the most I can as a citizen and I'm guessing you do too. Let's all take part in this important movement. Walton County can lead the way with an ordinance prohibiting the use of single-use plastic bags on our beaches and in our state parks.
Please help take this important step to keep our oceans free from plastic bags by adding your signature to this petition NOW.
