Ban teaching joined up handwriting in schools

Teaching children joined up handwriting is outdated and detrimental to their education. Children learn to read in phonics. They break the word down into the sound of each letter. Writing joined up means the children have to learn the word as a whole which completely undermines the teaching of phonics.
My children have always had beautiful handwriting until they're forced to write joined up. When we write formal documents they have to be in blocked, capital letters. As long as a child's writing is neat enough to be read, why take that away from them?
