Victoria Szczudrawa started this petition to Village of Lombard, Addison, Bloomingdale, and Glendale Heights.

The idea came to mind when Maine became the first STATE to ban styrofoam use entirely from businesses and restaurants. This in turn made me believe that the  villages surrounding my community can do this as well!

Styrofoam takes about a million years to decompose. There are only a few places that are able to recycle styrofoam because it is made out of polystyrene. Food in styrofoam containers can be contaminated by chemicals that leach into the food, resulting in negatively  affecting human health. The risk is increased if people reheat the food while still in the container. Even the American Chemistry Council admits that there is transmission of styrene from Styrofoam to food, albeit in minute quantities. Also, is makes up most of marine debris in oceans and easily breaks into smaller pieces where animals eat it, which can result in their deaths. It litters the ocean floor where fish and other creatures consume it.

There are a lot of other options that can be used instead of styrofoam to help save the marine life, help our healths, and the environment.
