Sharks have been on our earth for over 450 million years. They survived past the dinosaurs and yet we are driving sharks into extinction. Every year, shark specialists estimate that around 100 million sharks are slaughtered only for their fins. The rest of the body is tossed back into the ocean and the shark dies a slow painful death. The longlines used to catch sharks also catch many other species of endangered species such as turtles who die needlessly. The sharkfin market is unsustainable and detrimental to natural ocean ecosystems. We have driven many sharks to the edge of extinction, and if we don't change we are going to wipe one of the most important an beautiful species in the ocean, right off the face of this planet.
