Ban plastic bags in Noida

Supporters

This is important in order to do away with the " Throw away " attitude that we all have! If we do not take these measures now, it will be far too late to prevent our MOTHER EARTH from very harmful consequences! It's like a disease that is spreading, and spreading fast! And we're trying to prevent this disease as well as cure it !

Letter to
Concerned Authorities
The motivation behind writing this petition is to make our fellow citizens aware of the perilous affects of the indiscriminate usage of PLASTIC BAGS.

When was the last time you used a cloth bag for grocery shopping ? Hard to recall ? Lets make it easier. When was the last time you used a plastic bag for grocery shopping ?
We;re sure the answer to that didn’t take time to come.
Statistical figures hold that in just 25 years, our consumption rate of plastic bags has grown from almost zero to over 500,000,000,000 (that’s 500 billion) plastic bags annually … almost 1 million per minute. Surprising isn’t it ?
Well . As most of us know, plastic bags are made of polyethylene , a petroleum product. It takes 1000 years for polyethylene bags to break down.
Approximately 1 billion seabirds and mammals die per year by ingesting plastic bags.

We think its high time we realize that our callousness can result to be very devastating in the near future provided we ACT NOW .

Each one of us feel that life without plastic is impossible. But coming to think of it, with the rate at which we are using plastic bags, it won't be long before the entire Earth is covered with a layer of plastic! All of us being well aware of the hazards of plastic, continue to use them.
How difficult is it to carry a cloth or paper bag in place of a plastic bag , just till the grocery shop round the corner ?

OUR PROPOSAL -
1.The shop keepers should charge the customers for the bags to discourage them from using these bags!

2.It would be highly appreciated if the concerned authority makes a rule to ban the usage of plastic bags, following the ban in Delhi. The shops that do not adhere to this rule should also be heavily fined.

3.Big companies can be inspired to sponsor fiber bags which can be used in big supermarkets. EVENTUALLY LEADING THE SUPERMARKETS TO SWITCH TO FIBER BAGS.

4.THERE SHOULD BE IMMEDIATE IDENTIFICATION OF PLASTIC CARRY-BAGS MANUFACTURING UNITS, AND
MAKE APPROPRIATE AMENDMENTS IN THE LAW TO KEEP THEM UNDER CHECK.

5.TO DO AWAY WITH THE "THROW-AWAY" CULTURE OF PLASTICS, THE CITIZENS SHOULD BE FURTHER SENSITIZED TO THE ILL EFFECTS OF PLASTIC, BY MEANS OF NUKKAD NATAKS, AWARENESS DRIVES ETC.

6.GOVERNMENT SUPPORT SHOULD BE PROVIDED TO NGOs AND RECYCLING UNITS TO DO-AWAY WITH THE EXISTING PLASTIC IN THE ENVIRONMENT IN A HEALTHY MANNER TO COVERT IT INTO USEFUL THINGS(such as railway sleepers etc)

As concerned 16 year olds, who want to be assured of a bright future rather than none at all, we would like to request you to implement our proposal.

Let's not risk the lives of the generations to come at the cost of our comforts! I'd like to end with a quote by Mahatma Gandhi, " Be the change, you want to see".

It might take a little planning and a little more time to say no to plastic bags, but by putting life ahead of inconvenience, each and everyone of us can make a difference to the health of our planet and to all of those living things that have no choice but to live or to die because of the decisions we make.
